What is Huntington's Disease?

Huntington's disease is a hereditary disorder of the central nervous system. It usually develops in adulthood and has a huge range of symptoms including abnormal body movements and reduced coordination. Huntington’s disease can also affect mental abilities and some aspects of personality.

Huntington's disease is caused by a deformed gene on chromosome 4. Somehow, this faulty gene gradually leads to damage of nerve cells in areas of the brain. This damage causes the gradual physical, mental and emotional changes associated with Huntington’s disease.
