They may ask you to complete a series of head and eye co-ordination activities that will initially increase your symptoms in order to plan an appropriate treatment regime and home exercise program. Dependant on your symptoms, vestibular rehabilitation may include:
- Home exercise routine
- Neck and shoulder relaxation exercises
- Gaze stabilisation exercises
- Cawthorne Cooksey exercises
- Dynamic balance exercises
- Occulomotor tracking exercises
- Integration of rehabilitative activity
- Facilitation of return to normal daily routine
- Epley or Semont manoeuvre and Brandt-Daroff Exercises (for treatment of BPPV only)
- Use of gym equipment and gymnasium facilities
Vestibular rehabilitation may provoke the individual’s symptoms initially but it is important to persist with treatment as over time, it significantly reduces or eliminates all symptoms. The benefits of vestibular rehabilitation include:
