Effects of Bells Palsy

Bell’s palsy can affect people in different ways depending on the severity of the nerve damage. The symptoms of Bell’s palsy usually occur rapidly and may result in:

  • Drooping of one side of the face
  • Sagging of the eyebrow
  • Difficulty closing the eye
  • Watery or very dry eye
  • Difficulty smiling, expressionless face
  • Dribbling from the corner of your mouth
  • Sensitivity to high pitched noise
  • Possible altered sense of taste
Complications such as tight muscles, twitching of the facial muscles and eye problems may occur in those with long standing facial weakness. It is important that the above symptoms are confirmed to be a result of Bell’s palsy and not from another source for the most appropriate treatment is commenced.
