Paediatric Aids & Adaptions

Paediatric Aids & Adaptions

Children who have neurological conditions can have difficulty accomplishing everyday tasks. This can include, but is not limited to transferring from bed, out of chairs and off the toilet. As well as, completing the stairs, getting dressed and getting around the house independently.

In order to make your home environment more suitable for your child, Manchester Neuro Physio can assess your child at home and look for appropriate recommendations that may help your child to be independent around the house.

Your child's physiotherapist can demonstrate to them and any carers, how equipment should be used easily and safely. They may also work with Occupational Therapists for this. Common aids and adaptations that are often recommended for use include:

  • Zimmer/ Gutter Frames
  • Access Ramps
  • Shower and Bath seats
  • Hoists and Slings
  • Walkers (Three and Four wheeled)
  • Pressure relief cushions
  • Grab rails
  • Walking sticks and crutches
  • Wheelchairs
  • Kitchen accessories for easy swallowing and drinking - cups and beakers etc
  • Seating systems
  • Perching stools
  • Transfer boards
  • Bed levers
  • Adapted toilets - toilet seat raises and frames

Any adaptations or aids that are given to your child will be dependent on symptoms, housing environment and lifestyle goals.
