Diagnosing fibromyalgia is not simple because there is no specific diagnostic test and symptoms can vary greatly from person to person. A diagnosis is usually made by taking a medical history and performing a physical examination.
Investigations are usually performed to rule out conditions with similar symptoms to fibromyalgia such as chronic fatigue syndrome, lupus, under-active thyroid, MS, myositis, rheumatoid arthritis, and Sjogren's syndrome.
