Manchester Neuro Physio can appreciate how Nemaline Myopathy affects your daily living and can provide a service to assess individual requirements for treatment and construct a personal treatment plan maintain your independence in daily life. Your allocated physiotherapist will review our needs and plan treatments to:
- Maintain or increase your mobility
- Prevent exaggerated curvature (‘scoliosis’) of the spine
- Maintain range of movement
- Prevent contractures (shortening) of inactive muscles
An initial assessment will review your current levels of mobility, functioning and personal needs for treatment. During this initial assessment you may be assessed completing functional tasks such as standing and walking, moving from sit to stand and stand to sit, and moving into a comfortable lying position. Your therapist will then discuss with you some key areas of treatment focus to aim to improve or maintain your functional ability.
You will then receive treatment from your physiotherapist at convenient time for you in accordance with your prescribed programme. Further activities can often be prescribed to complete at home, in between sessions.
Your sessions can involve any of these treatments, as appropriate to your predetermined individual goals:
- Exercises to improve or maintain a functional level of muscle strength
- Stretches and activities to improve or maintain range of movement at joints
- Exercises to develop your independence improve the quality of your movements
