Conditions treated with Thermoplastic Splinting

Thermoplastic splinting can be used to treat a variety of conditions for example, stroke, head injury, cerebral palsy, rheumatoid arthritis, scars, muscular tears and fractures. It is always important to maintain range of movement and soft tissue length after any type of injury.

At Manchester Neuro Physio, we use thermoplastic splinting as part of treatment for many neurological conditions, such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, muscular dystrophy, Parkinson’s disease and Multiple sclerosis.

One of our specialist physiotherapists will assess the individual’s suitability for thermoplastic splinting. An in-depth knowledge of anatomy, muscle tone and the nervous system is essential. It is important that sensation is intact and there is good skin integrity to avoid developing sore areas from wearing the splint. It is also helpful if the patient understands how to apply the splint and the importance of adhering to the splinting regime set out by the therapist. If the patient is self-motivated and gradually increases the time spent wearing the splint, there will be substantial benefits.

To book an appointment or for more information regarding our thermoplastic splinting service please call 0161 883 0066,
