Physiotherapy for CIDP

Physiotherapy for CIDP

Each person with CIDP will have different needs and capabilities therefore a thorough assessment of your needs will be carried out by our specialist neurological physiotherapists to identify problem areas and a suitable treatment plan. This will aim to maximise your potential and independence and treatment may include:

  • Exercises to improve muscle strength and reduce stiffness as a result of immobility
  • Exercises to address your overall fitness and improve your exercise tolerance to combat fatigue levels
  • Functional tasks such as transfer practice, standing and mobility practice to increase your functional capabilities
  • Balance re-education to improve your balance reactions and reduce the risk of falls
  • Advice and provision of appropriate walking aids such as sticks or crutches to maximise independence whilst maintaining safety
  • Advice regarding appropriate home adaptations and equipment to make your life easier at home
  • Liaison with other relevant health professionals e.g. occupational therapists if necessary
  • Teaching those who care for you on the safest techniques to help you with functional transfers e.g. getting in and out of bed safely and easily
  • Pain management advice

Physiotherapy treatment for CIDP is recommended to start early to maximise results, however treatment is appropriate at any stage of your condition. Our specialist physiotherapists at Manchester Neuro Physio will support you and your family throughout your condition to maximise your quality of life.
