What is Thermoplastic Splinting?

Thermoplastic splinting is a techniques used by physiotherapist using a pliable plastic mould which is made specifically to aid the recovery of stiff joints or joint deformities following a neurological incident. The splint is heated to enable the plastic to mould to the required shape, its then encouraged for your child to wear the splint for up to 6-8 hours a day to encourage a permanent stretch at the joint and decrease the level of tone around the joint.

Your child will be actively encouraged to undertake a series of stretching and strengthening exercises alongside application of the splint.
