Thermoplastic Splinting

Thermoplastic Splinting

Thermoplastic Splinting involves the use of pliable plastic moulding for splinting devices to be made to fit an individual. The splints can be worn to keep various positions of the arm, leg or trunk. It is made specifically to help in the recovery of joint deformities and stiffness. Such splints are useful for children who have difficulty stretching their muscles independently because of spasticity, pain or weakness.

In order to encourage a permanent stretch at the joint to occur, your child is encouraged to wear their splint for 6-8 hours a day. The splint can also help to decrease tone.

Stretching and strengthening exercises will also be taught to be performed, as well as using the splint.
