Effects of Functional neurological deficit

The symptoms and presentation of functional neurological deficit will vary but may include any of the following:

  • Weakness affecting part of or the whole body
  • Impaired sensation
  • Altered speech
  • Altered vision
  • Reduced mobility
  • Reduced balance
  • Tremor
  • Dystonia (involuntary muscle contractions)

Living with the effects of functional neurological deficit can be distressing, especially when there is no identifiable cause for the symptoms. Our physiotherapists can give you the reassurance and support that you need in order to help you overcome your physical problems. Other treatment may include psychological support and possible drug management of your symptoms.
