The effects of Mucopolysaccharidosis

The effects of Mucopolysaccharidosis varies between patients because of the different types of Mucopolysaccharidosis.

Some of the symptoms that your child may be experiencing are:

  • Neurological complications, such as poor communication throughout the body due to damage to neurons (which send and receive messages).
  • Pain due to damage of the connective tissue, tendons, bones and nerves.
  • Poor motor function due to the damage to the neurons (nerve cells)
  • Cognitive impairments
  • Developmental delay
  • Communicating Hydrocephalus which is blockage of the normal fluid in the brain meaning there is excessive fluid which will increases the intracranial pressure.
  • Dyplasia which is abnormal englargement of an organ or tissue for example the liver
  • Progressive joint stiffness
  • Ligament laxity making the joint less stable
