Effects of Guillian-Barre Syndrome

The symptoms of Guillian-Barre syndrome (GBS) are:

  • Weakness of muscles in the legs, arms, face and muscles used for respiration. Muscle Weakness gets progressively worse if not treated and can result in paralysis.
  • If respiratory muscles are affected breathing can become difficult and your child may have to be ventilated.
  • Swallowing problems
  • Sensation problems from messages not being sent from the skin back to the spinal cord.
  • Some patients experience pain.
